Casual ableism/sizeism is claiming those type II diabetics that were overweight upon diagnosis “deserve” their disease because they “brought it upon themselves.”

Mod note from NappyEdges: This one annoys the fuck out of me. Being fat does not cause diabetes. Fatness is a side-effect of diabetes. Additionally plenty of fit/skinny people who “eat right” contract diabetes. Diabetes is caused by
1. the body’s inability to produce insulin and therefore process sugar
2.the body’s inability to use insulin correctly and therefore process sugar (diabetes type II)
3. if someone is morbidly obese i.e. weighs more than 400lbs with the weight coming from fat and not muscle and has a BMI over 35. At this point your organs start to shut down. One of these organs is the pancreas. The pancreas produces insulin. Now that your pancreas is shutting down your insulin production is fucked up. Voila diabetes type II. (Bodybuilders frequently fit these criteria but their weight is from muscle development and exercise and their organs are not failing so they are still considered healthy.)
