Casual Ableism is using retarded as a synonym for stupid or ignorant. 

And then when everyone stopped using retarded their would be a movement to stop people from saying stupid because it’s offensive to stupid people. 

No no. Now you’re being Ableist. Stupid and retarded are not the same thing and are not offensive for the same reasons.  Retarded is a medical term for people whose brains are not fully developed. From the latin verb retardare meaning to slow or to delay. If someone is retarded they are not just stupid or ignorant. Their brain develops slower than normal. The parts of their brain that allow them to learn things do not work. I repeat their brains do not work correctly. Retarded people literally can’t learn and therefore improve their knowledge.
Stupid people have full use of their brain. Most of them just don’t pay attention or spend their time learning useless things like the names of the kids on Jersey Shore. Of course stupid people don’t want to be called stupid. It hurts their feelings. But they have the ability to rid themselves of that stupidity. Don’t get it twisted.
